I am writing to urge you to stop immediately this Republican administration’s dismantling of the National Science Foundation's Ocean Observatories Initiative.
Decommissioning these 900+ deep-sea sensors directly compromises our national security, strips away critical early warning systems for natural disasters, and actively puts Texan lives at risk, especially along our Gulf coast.
The Ocean Observatories Initiative costs very little to maintain, but is vitally important to the safety and health of all Texans. Removing the sensors and cutting the program’s funding is not fiscal responsibility. It is reckless endangerment that will cost lives, infringe on our national security, and cost far more money than it saves.
My wife and I urge you to demand this administration cease its decommissioning of the NOAA sensors and restore the sensors already retired, for the good of Texas and our country.
