Demand Immediate Compliance with Epstein Files Transparency Act

To: Sen. Cornyn, Rep. Goldman, Sen. Cruz

December 24

The Justice Department is currently violating an act of Congress by failing to meet the Friday deadline for releasing all Epstein files in federal government possession. This transparency mandate was passed by Congress and signed into law by President Trump more than a month ago, yet the department released only a partial set of documents on Friday, many of which were already public. The administration's response to missing this legal deadline has been to ask career prosecutors in the Southern District of Florida to volunteer over Christmas and New Year's holidays to complete redactions. On December 23rd, two days before Christmas, a supervising prosecutor sent an emergency request to the entire district office seeking volunteers for remote document review. This last-minute scramble reveals a failure of leadership and planning despite having over a month to comply with the law. Sources familiar with the redaction process describe the guidelines as confusing or overly cautious, suggesting the department may be redacting more than necessary. While protecting victim identities is legitimate, the law requires transparency and the public deserves to see what their government knew about Jeffrey Epstein's criminal network. The department released nearly 30,000 additional records overnight, including prosecutor emails noting Trump's name on flight logs found during the Ghislaine Maxwell investigation, demonstrating that significant material exists but is being withheld. As a coequal branch of government, Congress has the constitutional authority and responsibility to ensure the executive branch complies with the law. I expect you to intervene immediately to compel full compliance with the Epstein files transparency act. The Justice Department must release all documents without further delay and provide a complete accounting of what has been withheld and why. The American people will not accept a cover-up disguised as a redaction process.
