U.S. District Court Judge Patrick Schlitz noted this week that “ICE has likely violated more court orders in January 2026 than some federal agencies have violated in their entire existence.”
This is a rogue agency that violates constitutional protections afforded both citizens and residents in our country alike and behaves as though it has absolute impunity and authority. It has neither of those things.
What it does have is instruction from this administration to behave exactly as we are seeing.
ICE cannot be allowed to operate in any U.S. city or state without dramatically upscaled oversight, accountability, and mission correction. They must not be permitted to continue treating our immigrant neighbors who are living, working, attending school, religious services, healthcare clinics, and community centers in our neighborhoods to as viable targets for extraordinary rendition to distant detention camps and deportation.
An agency that makes routine practice of flouting laws and court orders is inherently unfit to enforce our nation’s laws. Suspend ICE’s charter and operations completely unless and until it can be reconstituted as a lawful agency.
