Oppose Disruptions to Customs Processing at Major U.S. Airports

To: Rep. Mann, Sen. Marshall, Sen. Moran

From: A constituent in Hutchinson, KS

May 25

I oppose any effort to suspend Customs and Border Protection processing at airports in sanctuary cities. Blocking or limiting customs operations would disrupt travel, delay cargo, and hurt local economies while doing nothing to improve public safety. Reuters reported this month that airlines and travel industry leaders warned the policy could seriously damage international travel and commerce in major U.S. cities. Millions of travelers and businesses should not be caught in the middle of a political dispute. This proposal also misuses federal authority. Airport and border operations exist to serve the public and keep systems running safely, not to pressure cities over policy disagreements. Even Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said air travel should not be shut down because a state disagrees politically. I urge you to reject this proposal and keep federal transportation and border systems focused on public service, safety, and economic stability.
