As your constituent, I am writing to demand that you immediately speak out publicly regarding the urgent need to protect the volunteers of the Global Sumud Flotilla from the Israeli military. This civilian-led, humanitarian mission, carrying essential aid to Palestinians in Gaza who are suffering from starvation at the hands of Israeli forces, is facing significant threats, including reported drone attacks and interception by Israeli naval forces, in international waters. ​The safety of the approximately 500 unarmed activists, medical personnel, and parliamentarians from over 40 countries—many of whom are your allies and fellow citizens—must be a top priority. My concern is for their physical safety and their fundamental right to deliver humanitarian aid. ​I urge you to use the full weight of your office to: 1. ​Issue a public statement demanding the safe and unimpeded passage of the Global Sumud Flotilla to Gaza to deliver essential human aid to people in need. ​2. Contact the Israeli government to insist they provide protection and ensure the volunteers are not subject to harm, illegal interception, or detention. 3. ​Call for an immediate end to the harassment and military intimidation of the flotilla in international waters by Israeli forces. ​It is imperative that you stand up for international law and human rights defenders. I expect a prompt response detailing the specific actions you will take to protect these volunteers.
