Reports today indicate that Trump’s administration has been coordinating with Tehran to deport Iranians in the United States back to Iran (see the Guardian November 5, 2026).
This underhanded behavior belies this administration’s true intentions: to purge the United States of even lawful residents it deems undesirable, usually along racial or ethnic lines, regardless of the humanitarian needs or risks posed to the individuals it seeks to expel from our country.
Indeed, even the war of choice it wages against Iran seems to have less to do with the national security issues presented to the American public and more to do with money that can be made squeezing an oil-rich nation for tribute.
Congress must act to protect the rights of Iranians in the United States who will not be safe to return to their country of origin under a regime that has shown a persistent hostility to the U.S., especially during a period of conflict under the current administration. It is perverse to expel individuals who are fleeing a regime we have declared oppressive enough to require our intervention while also condemning their asylum seekers to return there only to face persecution and probable death.
Fix this Trumpian kafkaesque nightmare for Iranian refugees
