Protect Department of Education from dismantling by administration

To: Rep. Bynum, Sen. Wyden, Sen. Merkley

From: A constituent in Redmond, OR

July 21

The Department of Education plays a vital role in providing support and resources for students, teachers, and educational institutions across the nation. Congress must stand firm against this unconstitutional overreach and protect the Department's vital programs and protections for students. The Trump administration's efforts to dismantle the Department of Education through executive action represents a blatant disregard of congressional authority. Eliminating the Department would slash funding for public schools, end enforcement of civil rights protections in education, abolish federal student loan programs, and eliminate support systems for students with disabilities. These actions pose a direct threat to the education system and the futures of countless students. As a representative, you have a responsibility to defend the Department of Education, safeguard its crucial programs, and uphold civil rights protections for all students. The well-being of students, families, and the entire education system is at stake. Take immediate action to block any attempts to undermine this essential agency through unconstitutional overreach. Protecting public education and asserting congressional oversight must be a top priority.
