I am writing as an outraged Texan and parent to voice my fierce opposition to the school voucher bill that was disgracefully passed by the Texas House.
This legislation is nothing short of a slap in the face to every student, teacher, and parent who believes in the promise of public education. Handing over $1 billion in taxpayer dollars to private and unaccountable institutions is not “school choice” — it’s a reckless dismantling of the very system that serves the vast majority of Texas children.
Let’s be honest: this bill is not about helping kids. It’s about appeasing wealthy donors and political agendas at the expense of our communities. Public schools are already underfunded and overstressed, yet instead of investing in improving them, you’ve chosen to siphon money away to fund private education — which can discriminate, lacks transparency, and isn’t required to serve all students.
This betrayal is not going unnoticed. You are gambling with the futures of Texas children — and I, along with countless other furious constituents, will remember this vote. We will speak out, we will organize, and we will vote accordingly.
I demand that you reverse course and fight for the public school system you were elected to support — not sabotage.
