Protect Big Bend National Park: No Border Wall In America’s Natural Treasure
To: Sen. Cruz, Sen. Cornyn, Rep. Carter
From: A constituent in Leander, TX
June 16
I urge you in the strongest possible terms to reject any effort to construct additional border walls through or near Big Bend National Park. This proposal is fiscally irresponsible, environmentally destructive, and a direct threat to one of America’s greatest natural treasures.
Big Bend is not an empty stretch of land waiting to be bulldozed. It is a breathtaking national park cherished by millions of Americans and visitors from around the world. Its rugged mountains, desert landscapes, and the Rio Grande create one of the most spectacular and biologically diverse ecosystems in North America. Border walls would fragment wildlife habitat, block animal migration routes, damage fragile ecosystems, and permanently scar a landscape that belongs to all Americans.
The economic consequences would be just as damaging. Communities surrounding Big Bend depend on tourism and outdoor recreation. Visitors come to experience unspoiled wilderness, not steel barriers cutting through some of the most beautiful scenery in the United States. A wall threatens jobs, local businesses, and the long-term economic vitality of the region.
At a time when our nation faces serious fiscal challenges, spending billions of taxpayer dollars on unnecessary construction projects in one of our most treasured national parks is indefensible. Americans expect Congress to be responsible stewards of both our public lands and our tax dollars.
Please fight to keep America beautiful. Protect Big Bend National Park from needless border wall construction. Future generations deserve the chance to experience the same awe, wonder, and wild beauty that Americans treasure today.
Do not allow this irreplaceable national treasure to be sacrificed for political theater.
Protect Big Bend. Protect our wildlife. Protect our public lands.
