Safeguarding Social Security communications: equal access for all

To: Rep. Williams, Sen. Cornyn, Sen. Cruz

From: A verified voter in Arlington, TX

April 13

The Social Security Administration's decision to rely solely on X for public communications while downsizing regional staff offices is deeply concerning. This move effectively entrusts a privately-owned platform prone to algorithmic manipulation and disinformation with serving as the primary conduit between the government and millions of vulnerable seniors and other beneficiaries, many of whom may not be technologically adept. We must take immediate action to safeguard the integrity of Social Security services and ensure that all Americans, regardless of age or technological proficiency, have equal and unimpeded access to vital government programs. Allowing a single private entity like X to monopolize this critical communication channel not only jeopardizes the well-being of our most vulnerable citizens but also undermines the fundamental principles of transparency and accountability in public institutions.
