Prevent the repeal of section 230

To: Sen. Wyden, Sen. Merkley

From: A constituent in Eugene, OR

December 13

The repeal of section 230 is unnecessary and actively hostile to the interests of your constituents. Service providers being forced to take responsibility for everything on their platform will inevitably lead to over enforced and censored online spaces, the internet should be a neutral forum and this repeal will not only work against that goal, but give the government a reason to enact mass censorship in the name of “decent” internet spaces. This would be bad for our country in a time when conservative pushes against minorities, LGBTQ+, and sexual education are being painted as “obscene” in the public consciousness, this repeal does not protect or help anyone beyond those who would restrict our first amendment rights to free speech, and thus it should be fought against with vigor.
