I am absolutely furious and disgusted that Congress has stood by while this President continues to trample the Constitution and commit reckless, illegal acts. Because democratic leadership lack both morals and spines, the President has captured the Venezuelan leader and bombed the capital without Congressional approval. It appears Cuba and Mexico will be next. This is not the administrations first violation, but it should be the FINAL one. This abuse of power, war crimes, and reckless disregard for human lives endanger both Americans and Venezuelans (and Gazans, Nigerians, the list goes on). And yet Congress does nothing. At this point, the Constitution is simply a decoration. Your party’s continued inaction allowed this to happen, and it is shameful. Since Trump took office, Democrats have continued to placate to his regime and have allowed power to continually be consolidated to the executive branch. You take donations from citizens and PACs, while you setback and ignore your obligation to take strong and effective action. It is not lost on me that you have town halls and show up to protests, but at this point these actions feel more like a photo opp more than true care. I’m calling on you, my elected official, to call for an emergency session and to introduce articles of Impeachment. Impeachment is not just a constitutional duty - it is a moral obligation and the only tool left to uphold any semblance of democracy. This President has committed abuse of power, war crimes, and numerous violations of the Constitution. Now is the time. Your job is to protect the people, the Constitution, and to hold the President accountable so no one person can wield unchecked power over the lives of American citizens and control the fate of innocent people around the world. Do your fucking job. It’s time for you to show the strength and resolve that this nation deserves.
