I'm writing to express my deep concern about the current administration's approach to immigration enforcement, which seems to blatantly ignore court orders and human rights. Witnessing heavily armed ICE agents rounding up individuals, often based solely on their ethnicity, is profoundly disturbing. This behavior disregards basic civil rights and fails to consider the legal status or criminal history of those targeted. It's crucial that enforcement efforts are restrained to targeting individuals who have a judicial court order and have committed serious crimes. Hardworking, tax-paying immigrants should be left in peace, and the cancellation of visas and immigration statuses for those actively following legal procedures must stop.
Moreover, there should be accountability and transparency in ICE operations. I urge you to support the VISIBLE ACT, which mandates that ICE and Homeland Security personnel, along with any deputized agents, clearly identify themselves and treat individuals with respect. Too many people, especially those of color, live in fear of mistreatment and abuse, which is not how we should be treating members of our communities who are contributing and paying taxes into our systems.
Furthermore, I am deeply troubled by the lack of checks and balances enabling this misconduct and the influence of advisors like Steven Miller, who impose harmful quotas. It's imperative that Congress collaborates across party lines to restore oversight, order, and humanity to our immigration processes. We must protect civil rights and ensure that everyone's dignity is respected. Please take decisive action to address these pressing issues.
