Impeach Chief Justice John Roberts for Financial Disclosure Fraud

Congress must open an impeachment inquiry into Chief Justice John Roberts. For 16 years, Roberts mislabeled his wife Jane's commission income as "salary" on federal financial disclosure forms — the exact conduct that got federal judge Thomas Porteous impeached and removed from the bench in 2010. Roberts only corrected the record after a whistleblower forced the documents public. The numbers here are not abstract. Whistleblower Kendal Price filed internal spreadsheets with Congress showing Jane Roberts earned $10,323,842.70 in commissions over seven years, recruiting attorneys for firms like WilmerHale and Hogan Lovells — appellate practices that argue regularly before the Supreme Court. Republican ethics lawyer Richard Painter, who prepped Roberts for his own confirmation hearings, said Roberts "fudged the details and misleadingly described his wife's earnings as salary." Bennett Gershman of Pace University called the salary characterization "not just factually wrong but wrong as a matter of law." After Business Insider published the spreadsheets in 2023, Roberts quietly amended his disclosures and revealed an equity stake in his wife's firm he had omitted from three prior filings. The Judiciary Committee received the whistleblower complaint and did nothing. One standard of accountability cannot apply to district court judges and a different standard to the Chief Justice. I expect you to push for a full investigation and impeachment proceedings against Roberts without delay.
