Today I take pen in hand to write and urge you to vote NO on S.4925 another overly broad bill that effectively attacks free speech and makes it easy to ban books. It follows the pattern of extreme right and Christian Nationalists in the Republican party that have control freak tendencies, and think they can reprogram young people’s minds to be intolerant of anyone that doesn’t adhere to their often racist and narrow world view. As a result, books are being pulled from school shelves, challenged in public libraries, and targeted for removal not because they lack value, but because they tell stories that some officials find uncomfortable. That is not how a free society works. The freedom to read is a cornerstone of our democracy. Libraries and schools exist to provide access to knowledge, ideas, and perspectives from across the spectrum. When elected officials support book bans, they are not protecting children. They are limiting opportunity, silencing voices, and undermining the First Amendment. Congress has the power to defend the right of every American to access books without political interference, like this bill, authored by three of the most demented Senators ever to hold office. Send a resounding NO to your colleagues and Representatives today to inform their tiny minds that in America, we do not ban books. Vote NO on S.4925. Thank you.
