I am writing as your constituent to urgently request that you vote in favor of the pending joint resolution invoking the War Powers Resolution to direct the President to remove United States Armed Forces from unauthorized hostilities.
Our military personnel have been engaged in active combat operations without an explicit Declaration of War or a specific Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) from Congress. Article I, Section 8 of the United States Constitution explicitly grants Congress the sole power to declare war. The continued executive management of these hostilities bypasses the essential system of checks and balances that protects our nation from perpetual, unauthorized conflicts.
The human and financial costs of these ongoing hostilities are unsustainable. Resources that are desperately needed to address domestic infrastructure, healthcare, and economic stability are instead being directed toward an open-ended military engagement.
More importantly, this conflict continuously places the lives of American servicemembers at risk without a clear, legally authorized strategy for victory or exit.
Congress must reclaim its constitutional authority over war and peace. Fulfilling the duty to constituents and the Constitution by voting in favor of the resolution to end these unauthorized hostilities is a vital step toward restoring democratic oversight.
Thank you for the time and consideration given to this urgent matter.
