Greetings. Im am a voting constituent in rural west Texas. What we’re reading today… Florida’s draconian abortion law has taken effect. The new Florida law is possible because two years ago, on June 24, 2022, the Supreme Court  overturned the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision that recognized the constitutional right to abortion. In Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, the modern court decided that the right to determine abortion rights must be returned “to the people’s elected representatives” at the state level.  Florida now joins my state in policing reproductive healthcare. Healthcare that has been turned over to elected representatives to make the most personal of decisions. The GOP will now be in attendance in every reproductive decision made in FL, just like Texas. And in every bathroom stall where a woman is miscarrying because she cannot get life-saving treatment. How would you like that if the shoe were on the other foot? So much for the clarion call of personal freedom. Give that rant a rest. In your world it does not apply to women. More… Donald Trump, responsible for the situation American women find themselves in, goes even further with his ‘let the states do what they want’ passivity and bet-hedging has said he would still leave the issue of abortion to the states, even if states begin to monitor women’s pregnancies to keep them from obtaining abortions or to prosecute them if they have one.  Vice President Kamala Harris was in Jacksonville, FL, yesterday to talk about reproductive rights. “This is a fight for freedom,” she said, “the fundamental freedom to make decisions about one’s own body and not have their government tell them what they’re supposed to do.”  Guess which voice will win this battle come November?
