To Members of Congress:
Cutting foreign aid isn’t fiscal responsibility—it’s cruelty disguised as savings. The recent cuts to HIV programs in places like Congo have left rape victims without life-saving medications, putting thousands at risk of HIV and AIDS. The UNAIDS agency warns these cuts could cause up to 6 million new HIV cases and 4 million deaths by 2029. Clinics that once saved lives now turn patients away. This is the human cost of abandoning our global role.
Some will argue we need to balance the budget. But the facts are clear: the U.S. spends just a tiny fraction of its budget—less than 1%—on foreign aid. For just a few dollars per taxpayer each year, these programs have saved over 25 million lives worldwide. Ending this aid doesn’t solve our deficit. It costs lives, undermines global stability, and will leave the U.S. facing far greater humanitarian crises later. World health experts, international leaders, and human rights advocates all agree: this is not just wrong—it’s reckless.
We urge you to act now. Restore this funding. Stand up for life, dignity, and America’s role as a global leader. Being strong abroad doesn’t mean turning away from suffering—it means preventing it before it grows beyond control.
