Release All Immigration Detainees From For-Profit Detention Facilities Now

To: Sen. Alsobrooks, Sen. Van Hollen, Rep. Elfreth

From: A verified voter in Arnold, MD

September 13

Release every person currently held in for-profit immigration detention facilities. These are not abstract policy disagreements — people, including children, are being held without adequate due process while private corporations profit from their confinement. That is not law enforcement. That is a business model built on human suffering. The 13th Amendment's prisoner labor exemption already allows corporations like UNICOR to pay incarcerated workers as little as $0.23 an hour. Extending that logic to immigration detention — where people have committed no crime — is a constitutional and moral catastrophe. Facilities like Delaney Hall are operating in the shadows, with minimal press coverage and no meaningful congressional oversight. Your silence is a choice. End these contracts, release the detainees, and use your office to demand full transparency into every facility currently holding people under ICE authority.
