I am writing to ask you to speak up about the firing of Carla Hayden, the Librarian of Congress. As you know, Dr. Hayden is eminently qualified for the position. You voted for her to be confirmed. She has done excellent work since she was confirmed and has one year left on her term. The only reason that the Trump administration has given us that she was not “serving the interests of the American taxpayer” but no examples have been given except that she has put inappropriate books for children in the library. The Library of Congress receives a copy of every book published in the United States by law. If there are inappropriate books there, she cannot legally deny them. Second, the collection is not aimed at children. It is designed for the use of the Legislative branch of the government and adult reasearchers. It is your duty to speak out against this ridiculous firing and campaign for Dr. Hayden to serve the rest of her term.
