Stand Up for Your Constituents Before It's Too Late

To: Sen. Hawley, Sen. Schmitt

From: A verified voter in Kansas City, MO

August 4

I am writing to ask a simple question: Why are you not standing up for the people you were elected to represent? For months, I have watched as Russell Vought and this administration have taken actions that have weakened federal agencies, demoralized and traumatized dedicated public servants, and undermined the institutions that millions of Americans rely on every day. Instead of providing meaningful oversight or defending the Constitution, too many members of Congress have remained silent. Federal employees are not political pawns. They are public servants who keep our government functioning, often under difficult circumstances and with limited resources. They deserve respect, stability, and leaders who will defend them—not stand by while they are subjected to constant attacks and uncertainty. Your first responsibility is to your constituents—not to any president or political figure. We elected you to exercise independent judgment, uphold the rule of law, and protect the institutions that serve the American people. That responsibility does not disappear when doing so becomes politically difficult. This letter is a reminder that we expect you to stand up and fight for us. We are paying attention to the choices you make and whether you are willing to put the interests of your district ahead of loyalty to one individual in the White House. If you expect to earn another term in office, you need to demonstrate through your actions that you care more about the people you represent than about protecting one man in the presidential office. History will remember who chose to defend our democratic institutions and who remained silent while they were weakened. The choice is yours. I urge you to choose your constituents.
