Support May Day Actions and Encourage Constituent Participation

To: Gov. Whitmer, Rep. Rogers, Sen. McCann

From: A verified voter in Kalamazoo, MI

April 14

I'm asking you to publicly support unions and workers participating in May Day actions on May 1st and to encourage your constituents to join the day of no work, no school, and no shopping. Working people are being squeezed from every direction. Trump's proposed military budget would jump 42% to $1.5 trillion, with another $200 billion requested for the Pentagon. That money comes directly from cuts to food assistance, housing, education, healthcare, and childcare. The same $200 billion could cancel all medical debt in this country or provide free school lunches to every public school student. Instead, it's funding wars that kill workers abroad while we pay the price at home. May Day has always been about workers standing together across borders. Right now, unions and community organizations are mobilizing under the May Day Strong coalition with demands to tax the rich and kick ICE out of our communities. Workers in Minneapolis have already organized assemblies to coordinate their response. This movement deserves your vocal support, not silence. More information is available at https://www.leftvoice.org/this-may-day-the-working-class-must-defeat-the-ruling-classs-wars/ Stand with working people on May 1st. Publicly endorse their right to strike, walk out, and protest. Encourage your constituents to participate in this day of action. The working class needs elected officials who will back them up when they organize, not just offer words after the fact.
