In light of ongoing litigation regarding the termination of USAID employees and the cessation of USAID grants, the destruction of personnel records and classified documents must cease immediately. These records are crucial pieces of evidence pertinent to the cases and their destruction could obstruct the legal process. Continuing to shred or burn these materials risks undermining the judicial system and depriving both parties of crucial information required for a fair and just resolution. The administration's efforts at document eradication call into question a commitment to transparency and could prove unconstitutional if they prevent Congress' appropriated funds from being disbursed as intended. Respect for the rule of law and preservation of evidence is paramount during active legal proceedings. Halting the destruction of USAID files will allow the courts to properly evaluate the legality of the agency's dissolution based on all available documentation.
