I am writing to strongly oppose President Trump’s executive order targeting sanctuary cities. Publishing a list of jurisdictions that limit cooperation with federal immigration enforcement and threatening to cut their federal funding undermines local law enforcement and public safety. It discourages immigrant communities from reporting crimes and building trust with police, making everyone less safe (Washington Post, April 2025).
Research consistently shows that immigrants, including undocumented individuals, are less likely to commit crimes than native-born Americans. Studies have found that areas with higher immigrant populations often experience lower crime rates, disproving harmful stereotypes (American Immigration Council, 2025; Migration Policy Institute, 2025). Policies that criminalize immigrants are not based in fact and only fuel fear and division.
I urge you to reject punitive actions against sanctuary cities and instead push for real immigration reform that strengthens our communities, respects human rights, and restores America’s standing as a nation that leads with fairness and justice.
