Block this administration's plan to redirect federal child care subsidies away from working parents. The Trump administration is drafting a rule that would allow married couples with a stay-at-home spouse to collect from a fund specifically created in the 1990s to help low-income and working-class parents afford child care so they could work or go to school. That money was never meant for this. The program provides roughly $9,000 per child annually. Siphoning it toward stay-at-home parents in married households means single parents, low-income families, and working-class caregivers lose access to support they depend on. Child care providers could raise rates or shut down entirely, making an already dire child care crisis worse for the people who need help most.
