I am writing to express my deep concern about any proposal to sell, transfer, or otherwise reduce protections for America’s national parks and other federally protected public lands. Our national parks belong to all of us. They are places where families make memories, communities connect with nature, and future generations can experience some of the most remarkable landscapes in our country. These lands also protect wildlife habitat, watersheds, forests, historic sites, and ecosystems that cannot simply be recreated once they are gone. Selling public lands may provide short term financial benefits, but it risks creating permanent losses. Once protected land passes into private ownership or is developed, the public may lose access to places that have been held in trust for generations. Decisions about these lands should not be driven solely by immediate financial considerations when the consequences could last for centuries. I am particularly concerned about what the loss of public ownership could mean for conservation, public access, recreation, wildlife, and the preservation of culturally and historically significant places. National parks represent a commitment that certain treasures are more valuable than their potential price on a balance sheet. I urge you to oppose efforts to sell or weaken protections for our national parks and public lands. Instead, I encourage you to support responsible stewardship, adequate funding, and long term investments that allow these places to remain protected and accessible to the public. Protecting our national parks is not simply about preserving scenery. It is about honoring our responsibility to the people who came before us and to the generations who will come after us. Please protect these lands as a public trust and ensure that America’s national parks remain protected, accessible, and cared for for generations to come. Sincerely,
