Protect the Rule of Law—Oppose Emil Bove’s Confirmation
To: Sen. Schmitt, Sen. Hawley
From: A constituent in Kansas City, MO
June 28
I urge you to vote no on the nomination of Emil Bove to the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. A federal judge must embody honesty, transparency, impartiality, and a deep respect for the rule of law. Bove’s reported conduct falls far short of that standard. In just five months at the Deputy Attorney General’s office, Bove has been implicated in multiple abuses of power— each one undermining the foundations of equal justice. Reports indicate he led efforts to target and remove FBI agents and prosecutors involved in January 6th cases. He allegedly pressured the Mayor of New York to accept a political deal in exchange for halting a federal prosecution. Most recently, a DOJ whistleblower stated Bove plotted to defy and mislead federal courts around illegal deportations. This is not a matter of ideology. It’s a matter of character and constitutional responsibility. Expanding patterns of misconduct and disregard for legal limits make all of us less safe. The Senate has a duty to uphold the integrity of the judiciary. Bove’s record demonstrates a dangerous willingness to put personal or political goals above the law. That alone should disqualify him from a lifetime appointment to the federal bench.
