Protect Public Education!

I urge you to stand against efforts to dismantle the Department of Education. The administration is using misleading rhetoric—such as “returning education to the states”—to hide the devastating consequences: millions of students, particularly those in low-income communities and students with disabilities, could lose access to essential resources.Weakening federal education programs does not empower schools—it erodes equity, threatens civil rights, and abandons the very students who need support the most. For decades, the Department of Education has played a crucial role in ensuring that every student—regardless of background, income, or ability—has access to a quality education. It enforces civil rights protections, funds school meal programs, and provides essential support through the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Section 504. Without these safeguards, families and educators will be left scrambling to fill the gaps—deepening inequality and leaving millions of children behind. Consider this: • More than 90% of students—and 95% of students with disabilities—attend public schools that rely on Department of Education programs. • Millions of students with ADHD, anxiety, autism, and other conditions depend on 504 Plans and IDEA protections to ensure they receive the education they deserve. My own child benefited from a 504 Plan, which provided the necessary support for success. • Rolling back federal oversight does not “fix” education—it weakens protections, exacerbates disparities, and abandons students who rely on these services. This is not about politics. This is about ensuring every child has the same opportunities to learn and succeed—no matter where they live or their circumstances. Dismantling the Department of Education will have long-term, irreversible consequences for students, families, and our country’s future. I urge you to oppose any efforts to defund or weaken the Department of Education. Public education must remain strong, equitable, and accessible to all. Please stand up for students, educators, and communities by protecting the programs that support them. Ensure strong schools. Protect public education. Invest in our children’s future.
