Last week, the House of Representatives took a huge step toward implementing Trump’s plan to “take over” the midterm elections by passing sweeping anti-voter legislation that could disenfranchise as many as 21 million Americans. Trump says this bill is needed because cities like Detroit, Atlanta, and Philadelphia can’t be trusted to “count the vote legally and honestly.”  That’s hogwash. You know what’s going on as well as I do. Trump sees the writing on the wall and knows that Republicans are headed for a wipe-out in the midterms. So he’s trying to steal it. You cannot let that happen.  Historians say the SAVE America Act is the most severe attack on voting rights to ever pass either house of Congress. Perhaps the worst provision in the bill is a requirement that voters show either a passport, military service papers, or a birth certificate, combined with an exactly matching current photo ID in person in order to register to vote. If you’ve changed your name, don’t have a passport, or don’t have easy access to your birth certificate, you simply won’t be allowed to vote. This is a wolf in sheep’s clothing.  Let’s call it what it is - it’s a poll tax.  Forcing citizens to pay hundreds of dollars to acquire the needed documents that they may not have on hand.  Forcing them to take off work to make appointments to file the necessary paperwork.  I’m not opposed to voter ID, but make it equitable.  If voter ID is going to be the rule, then eliminate the barriers to getting those documents:  - Temporarily eliminate the cost of getting those documents (birth certificates, passports, real ids, etc.) -Extend DMV and post offices hours of operation to allow additional time and opportunity to get the documents -Mandate employers grant leave to employees to go get them (similar to jury duty).l In addition, the SAVE America Act would: • Allow massive voter roll purges. • Threaten nonpartisan election officials with imprisonment if they fail to uphold the bill’s strict voter documentation requirements. • Implement nationwide photo ID requirements at the polls. • Ban universal mail-in ballots, throwing the election into complete chaos in the eight states where vote-by-mail is currently the primary method of voting. To be clear: This has nothing to do with stopping voter fraud. It’s about stopping legal voters from casting their ballots and ultimately laying the groundwork for Trump to block certification of any election results he doesn’t like, just like he tried to do on January 6, 2021. Trump is justifiably worried about the 2026 midterms. His polls are tanking. The Epstein files aren’t looking good. The economy is cratering. At this rate, Democrats could sweep both chambers of Congress. If that happens, Trump will face a constant barrage of hearings, inquiries, and even (as he’s said several times) impeachment votes starting in January 2027.  It’s not a stretch to predict that the Senate might convict him of impeachable offenses.  That’s why you must defend our free and fair elections.
