I am writing as a concerned constituent to express my strong opposition to the actions of Russell Vought, the Trump administration, and the ongoing effort to weaken the federal civil service. The recent decision to strip civil service protections from thousands of federal employees is deeply troubling. Career public servants are hired based on merit, expertise, and dedication to serving the American people, not political loyalty. Reclassifying positions so employees can be fired more easily threatens the independence and professionalism that Americans rely on from their government. Our nation created a merit based civil service to prevent government jobs from becoming political rewards and punishments. Weakening those protections risks replacing experienced professionals with individuals selected primarily for ideological or political reasons. This undermines public trust and damages the government’s ability to provide consistent services to veterans, seniors, people with disabilities, and all Americans who depend on federal agencies. Russell Vought has been a leading architect of efforts to concentrate greater political control over federal agencies and reduce the independence of career employees. I believe these actions move our government in the wrong direction. Public servants should be evaluated on their performance and competence, not their willingness to conform to political demands. I urge you to publicly oppose efforts to dismantle civil service protections, support legislation that preserves a professional and nonpartisan federal workforce, and conduct vigorous oversight of actions that threaten the integrity of federal institutions. The American people deserve a government staffed by qualified professionals who serve the Constitution and the public interest, regardless of which political party occupies the White House.
