Stop the Harm: Oppose the “Big Beautiful Bill” and Protect American Families

To: Sen. Moreno, Sen. Husted

From: A constituent in Dayton, OH

May 28

I am writing to express my deep concern and strong opposition to the recently passed One Big Beautiful Bill Act. While the bill’s title may be crafted to sell optimism, the substance beneath it paints a troubling picture for millions of Americans — particularly working families, the elderly, students, and the most vulnerable in our society. Let me be clear: this legislation is a fiscal Trojan horse. Beneath the veneer of tax relief lies a reckless expansion of the national debt — by more than $3.3 trillion — that will burden future generations while delivering permanent corporate tax cuts and only temporary, marginal relief to everyday Americans. The hypocrisy of championing “fiscal responsibility” while passing such an outrageously expensive bill is both glaring and indefensible. Moreover, this bill is an assault on the safety net that many Americans rely on. Cuts to Medicaid and SNAP, and the imposition of stringent new work requirements, will strip healthcare and food assistance from those who need it most. These are not “incentives to work” — they are punishments for being poor. The education provisions are no better. Raising the eligibility threshold for Pell Grants and eliminating federally subsidized undergraduate loans directly undermine access to higher education, especially for low-income students who are striving to improve their futures. That is not economic mobility — it is educational gatekeeping. Finally, the bill’s rollback of green energy incentives is a step backward in the urgent global fight against climate change. As other nations invest in clean technology, we are choosing to double down on fossil interests. That is not energy independence — it is environmental negligence. Senator, I urge you to publicly oppose the most harmful provisions of this legislation and to work toward responsible, inclusive, and future-oriented policy. Tax reform should not be a smokescreen for gutting public services and enriching the already wealthy. I expect you to stand with the people — not party politics or corporate donors. I will be watching your actions closely, and so will many of your constituents. Our future depends on your leadership.
