The humanitarian crisis in Gaza is dire, with the United Nations World Food Programme running out of food supplies after Israel imposed a total blockade nearly two months ago. Over 2 million Palestinians are now facing potential famine and acute shortages of essential items like flour, sugar, and cooking oil. While Israel cites security concerns with Hamas, preventing vital aid from reaching civilians is unacceptable and will only exacerbate the suffering. I urge immediate steps to reopen borders and allow the 116,000 metric tons of food aid waiting at corridors to be distributed to those in desperate need. The fragile gains made during the recent ceasefire have already unraveled - further escalation will only worsen this catastrophe. Diplomatic efforts must prioritize facilitating humanitarian access and averting mass starvation in Gaza.
