Urgent Concern: Protecting Treasury Data from Unauthorized Access

To: Sen. Hickenlooper, Sen. Bennet, Rep. DeGette

From: A constituent in Denver, CO

February 5

I am writing to express deep concern over reports that Elon Musk may have access to Treasury data. This is not his role, nor should it ever be. The management of federal funds and fiscal policy is the exclusive responsibility of Congress and the Department of the Treasury, as outlined in Article I, Section 9 of the U.S. Constitution. Elon Musk is a private citizen with no elected or appointed authority over government finances. Allowing him—or any unelected individual—access to Treasury data undermines both the integrity of our financial system and the public trust in government accountability. The American people did not elect Musk to make decisions about federal spending, and his involvement is not only inappropriate but a direct challenge to the constitutional framework that grants Congress exclusive control over financial oversight. This matter is not about political preference but about maintaining clear lines of authority and responsibility as defined by our nation's founding document. I urge you to take immediate action to prevent any unauthorized access to Treasury data by individuals who have no legal standing to review or influence it. Congress must demand transparency and enforce safeguards to ensure that such overreach does not occur, now or in the future. Please act decisively to protect the integrity of our government’s financial oversight and uphold the constitutional separation of powers.
