Support DC33
To: Mayor Parker
From: A verified voter in Philadelphia, PA
July 2, 2025
I am writing to you as a concerned citizen and supporter of the hardworking members of AFSCME District Council 33, who are currently on strike. These men and women are the backbone of Philadelphia; our sanitation workers, our public works crews, and so many others who keep this city running, often without the recognition or compensation they deserve.
They are not asking for luxury; they are asking for fairness: fair wages that reflect the rising cost of living, safe working conditions, and a contract that respects their dignity and dedication. These workers have shown up every day, through pandemics, storms, and economic hardship. Now, it’s time the city shows up for them.
I urge you to return to the negotiating table immediately and bargain in good faith. The city has a moral and civic responsibility to invest in its workforce. Meeting the union’s reasonable demands is not just the right thing to do—it is a powerful message that Philadelphia honors its essential workers.
Please lead with the compassion and strength you have so often promised. The people of this city are watching. We are counting on you to do what’s just.
