As one of your constituents and a practicing Earth scientist, I urge you to do all that you can to stop the dismantling of the National Center for Atmospheric Research (or NCAR) in Boulder, Colorado, as announced by OMB Director Russ Vought. NCAR provides essential forecasting support to our nation, helping to save lives and property. The work they do helps airlines fly safely, farmers prepare for future conditions, and provides critical severe weather predictions for the US, most especially here in California, AND involving the latest in AI algorithms. Dismantling NCAR is a reckless, wasteful exercise that could cost lives. Please! I hope that your office will do all that it can to help stop this from happening. Thank you for your service to our state and to the nation.
