Defend Congressional Oversight on NASA Budget

To: Sen. Schiff, Sen. Padilla, Rep. Chu

From: A constituent in Pasadena, CA

July 19

It is critical that Congress maintains its authority over federal spending and the NASA budget. The Administration's threat to unilaterally implement drastic funding cuts that were never approved by Congress would be a dangerous overreach of executive power. Such actions would devastate NASA's workforce and scientific programs, setting back aerospace innovation and exploration for years to come. Preserving NASA's budget as passed by Congress is vital to ensuring the agency can continue advancing important missions and research. These include exploring the Moon and Mars, studying Earth's climate, launching cutting-edge space telescopes, and developing new technologies that benefit society. Allowing the White House to arbitrarily slash NASA's budget would undermine the nation's leadership in space and science. We call on Congress to stand firm in its constitutional role over appropriations. The Administration must respect the separation of powers and congressional intent by fully executing the NASA budget that is ultimately approved through the proper legislative process. Failing to do so would be a violation of established norms of governance. NASA's workforce, industry partners, and the American people are counting on our elected leaders to fulfill their obligations and protect this essential investment in the future.
