Stand With Federal Employees, Not Political Retaliation

To: Sen. Hawley, Sen. Schmitt

From: A verified voter in Kansas City, MO

July 7

I am writing to express my deep outrage over the continued attacks on federal employees by Russell Vought and this administration. The latest efforts to weaken employee protections, reduce transparency, undermine collective bargaining, and diminish accountability are not reforms. They are an assault on the dedicated public servants who keep our government functioning every day. Federal employees process Social Security benefits, care for our veterans, protect our food and water, respond to disasters, defend our nation, and carry out the laws that Congress passes. They deserve respect and support, not to be treated as political targets or scapegoats. Proposals that reduce transparency, strip away employee rights, and make it easier to silence concerns about working conditions do nothing to improve government. Instead, they weaken public trust, discourage experienced employees from remaining in public service, and make it harder to recruit the next generation of civil servants. History will remember who stood up for working Americans and who stood by while career public servants were attacked for political gain. This is a defining moment. You either stand with the people, or you stand with the oligarchy. There is no meaningful middle ground when the institutions that serve the American people are being systematically weakened. I urge you to publicly oppose efforts that erode the rights and independence of the federal workforce. Defend collective bargaining, protect whistleblowers, preserve transparency, and ensure that government serves the public, not political ideology or powerful special interests. I will be paying close attention to how you respond and how you vote on issues affecting the federal workforce. Your constituents deserve leadership that defends the rule of law, values public service, and stands up for the people who keep this country running.
