The potential selling off of federal public lands is a concerning issue that could have severe economic and environmental consequences for rural communities across the country. These lands support diversified economies, recreational opportunities, and are an invaluable national asset that belongs to all Americans. Dismantling agencies like the U.S. Forest Service through funding cuts and employee firings appears to be a strategy to undermine federal land management and set the stage for privatization efforts. This would deprive citizens of access to public lands and eliminate the numerous benefits they provide to local economies. We must protect our public lands from being sold off to private interests or transferred to state control, which could lead to development and loss of access. These lands were set aside for preservation and public use through a longstanding American tradition. They fuel economic growth in gateway communities and outdoor recreation businesses. Preserving federal public land holdings and properly funding the agencies that manage them should be a priority to maintain this shared national inheritance for current and future generations. I urge you to take a stand against any attempts to dismantle or privatize federal public lands.
