I am asking you to use your voice and your influence to demand that Speaker Mike Johnson immediately swear in Representative-elect Adelita Grijalva. The people of her Arizona district have spoken, and their will is being ignored. Speaker Johnson’s claim that he’ll handle the swearing-in “when the House returns to session” after receiving state paperwork is not credible, it’s a stall tactic. Earlier this year, he swore in another Democrat, James Walkinshaw, almost immediately under the same conditions. The only real difference is that Grijalva’s vote may matter in a closely divided House.
This is not just unfair, it’s disenfranchisement. Every day Adelita Grijalva is sidelined, her constituents are denied representation. Arizona voters deserve to have their elected member seated without political delay.
You’ve always stood up for democracy and for the people of Arizona. Please, press Speaker Johnson directly — both publicly and behind the scenes — to do his job and seat Representative-elect Grijalva without further delay.
Thank you for continuing to fight for our state and for the integrity of our democracy.
