Support Sanders-Ocasio-Cortez Data Center Moratorium Bill

To: Rep. Cole, Sen. Armstrong, Sen. Lankford

From: A verified voter in Norman, OK

March 28

I'm asking you to co-sponsor the Sanders-Ocasio-Cortez legislation imposing a moratorium on new data centers until national safeguards protect workers, consumers, and the environment. Voluntary commitments from tech companies aren't enough to address the real harm these facilities cause. A single AI-focused data center consumes as much electricity as 100,000 households. U.S. electricity consumption hit a record high in 2024 and keeps climbing. Communities across Georgia, Virginia, and New Jersey have already pushed back against data centers because of rising electricity prices, pollution, and water consumption. These concerns helped Democrats win in 2023. Voters need more than PR campaigns from Big Tech. Senator Sanders is right that Congress is way behind in understanding this technological revolution. We cannot let a handful of billionaire tech oligarchs make decisions that reshape our economy and democracy without oversight. The companies that pledged to build their own power generation have made promises before. We need binding federal safeguards, not corporate assurances. Support this moratorium.
