I need you to oppose new data center projects in our state and support legislation that gives local communities real power to reject these facilities.
Texas is being sold a false promise. Developers claim massive economic benefits, but the numbers don't add up. The Abilene Stargate Project requires 1,500 construction workers but only 100 permanent jobs. State tax incentives require just 20 jobs minimum for facilities of at least 100,000 square feet. Meanwhile, these facilities consume staggering amounts of water and electricity that will drive up costs for families already struggling with bills.
In Harlingen, one data center will use over 4.6 million gallons of water daily. That's exploiting our resources to power AI and cloud storage for tech companies while residents in low-income areas pay the price. Northern Virginia has over 250 data centers, and communities there have seen their resources drained without the promised benefits materializing.
The State Republican Executive Committee passed a near-unanimous resolution in February calling for rigorous assessments, evaluation of grid and water impacts, and a pause on the highest water-using facilities. Listen to them. Support legislation that requires independent impact studies before approval and gives cities and counties authority to reject projects that threaten our water supply and electric grid.
