I’m writing as a Coloradan, a healthcare professional, and a neighbor who believes safety and dignity should never be at odds. I’m heartsick and alarmed by immigration enforcement tactics that make people targets based on how they look, the language they speak, or where they work. That’s not how a country of laws or a community of humans should operate. We can enforce the law without fear and humiliation. Mass raids and appearance-based stops don’t make us safer; they shatter trust, split families, and push people into the shadows. In healthcare, I see how fear keeps patients from seeking care, reporting abuse, or showing up for follow-ups. That hurts all of us. Here’s what I want to see: clear guardrails against profiling, real transparency about who is being stopped and why, rapid access to counsel, and public oversight of large-scale operations. If enforcement is truly about safety, it should be narrow, accountable, and constitutional never indiscriminate or dehumanizing. We’re better than this. I’m asking leaders at every level to choose courage over cruelty, evidence over theater, and humanity over hysteria. Protect people. Protect rights. Protect the values we keep saying we believe in.
