oppose ice actions

To: Rep. Moore, Sen. Baldwin, Sen. Johnson

From: A constituent in Milwaukee, WI

November 23

I am writing to express my deep concern about reports of inhumane treatment in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facilities. As a trauma therapist, I recognize that even a single interaction with ICE can cause immense psychological harm, let alone being removed to a detention facility. Many individuals in the U.S. are seeking refuge from trauma in their home countries, and the treatment they receive here can compound their suffering. Detainees, including families and children, must be treated with dignity, provided adequate medical care, and guaranteed safe, sanitary conditions in accordance with U.S. law and international human rights standards. Oversight and accountability are essential to ensure that facilities uphold these standards and that any misconduct by officials is addressed promptly. I urge Congress to strengthen monitoring, enforce humane treatment policies, and prioritize reforms that protect the rights and well-being of all individuals in ICE custody. Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
