Stop Prioritizing Bureaucracy Over Results

To: Sen. Schmitt, Sen. Hawley

From: A verified voter in Kansas City, MO

April 10

I am writing to you because the federal government has lost sight of what actually matters delivering real results to the American people. A recent analysis highlighted a serious and growing problem within federal agencies. Too often success is measured by paperwork procedures and compliance rather than by whether programs are actually working. Systems reward documentation and defensibility instead of real world impact. That is not accountability. That is bureaucracy for its own sake. This problem has only been made worse by the disruptive and poorly thought out implementation of DOGE driven initiatives across federal agencies. These efforts have prioritized rapid changes and surface level metrics over stability institutional knowledge and long term effectiveness. As a result agencies have lost experienced personnel disrupted critical workflows and created confusion instead of meaningful improvement. When agencies cannot clearly demonstrate what is working they fall back on process as a substitute for performance. This creates layers of unnecessary rules that slow down progress waste resources and prevent effective solutions from reaching the people who need them. The federal government absolutely needs oversight and accountability. But it also needs the courage to admit that not every procedure adds value. In many cases these requirements are performative rather than productive and they actively get in the way of meaningful outcomes. You were elected to represent your constituents not to defend a system that prioritizes process over results. I am asking you to push for reforms that focus on outcomes eliminate unnecessary procedural barriers and demand clear evidence that government programs are actually delivering value. We need leadership that is willing to challenge the status quo and insist on a government that works not one that simply documents that it tried. I expect you to speak out on this issue and advocate for real results driven reform.
