Failure of Professional Conduct by the Attorney General

To: Sen. Hickenlooper, Rep. DeGette, Sen. Bennet

From: A constituent in Denver, CO

February 11

I write today in response to Attorney General Pamela Bondi’s testimony before the House Judiciary Committee on February 11, 2026. I watched the hearing and reviewed multiple reports of her conduct during questioning. Over the course of a prolonged session focused on oversight of the Department of Justice’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files, Attorney General Bondi engaged in repeated personal attacks on members of Congress, deflected direct questions, and refused to answer substantive inquiries about transparency, accountability, and the protection of victims who were present in the hearing room. According to widely reported accounts, she resorted to insults such as calling a duly elected Member of this body a “washed-up, loser lawyer,” and declined to offer direct responses or apologies when asked. Such conduct is unprecedented in modern congressional oversight. The Attorney General of the United States holds a position that requires adherence to standards of impartiality, professionalism, and respect for both this institution and the rule of law. Her antagonistic responses and brazen insults toward Members, and her refusal to engage transparently with questions about how sensitive documents were handled, were wholly unbecoming of the chief law enforcement officer of the United States. The Department of Justice must be led with integrity and free of partisan bias. An attorney general who openly disparages members of Congress during an oversight hearing and shows clear unwillingness to provide straightforward answers undermines confidence in the independence of the Justice Department. This behavior calls into serious question Attorney General Bondi’s ability to serve impartially and uphold the traditions of professional conduct that have long guided this office. For these reasons, I urge this body to consider all appropriate measures to address these concerns, including impeachment proceedings. The Attorney General’s conduct at today’s hearing has demonstrated a failure to meet the ethical and professional standards expected of her office. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
