Demand accountability for wrongful deportation violating judicial order

To: Rep. Gill, Sen. Cornyn, Sen. Cruz

From: A constituent in Little Elm, TX

April 15

The actions of the Trump administration in deporting Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia, a Maryland resident and father of a U.S. citizen child, to the notorious El Salvador prison CECOT are disturbing violations of due process. Despite a prior immigration ruling barring his deportation to El Salvador, he was wrongfully sent there in an "administrative error" according to the administration's own admission. This not only unjustly tore apart his family, but placed him in potentially life-threatening conditions at CECOT. The fact that the Justice Department acknowledges the mistake yet claims they can do nothing to rectify it sets an extremely concerning precedent of ignoring judicial orders and disregarding legal procedures in the deportation process. If allowed to stand, it would render immigration laws and court rulings essentially meaningless. This undermines the entire legal immigration system and rule of law. I urge you to use your authority as a legislator to demand accountability from the Trump administration for this unacceptable violation of Abrego Garcia's rights. At minimum, they must take immediate steps to secure his safe return from the unjustified deportation to El Salvador in defiance of the prior court order. Safeguarding due process and respect for judicial rulings, even for non-citizens, is essential to upholding American principles of justice and human rights. I hope you will make this case a priority in your oversight role.
