For more than 30 years, the United States Postal Service has directed people who need to file a Change of Address to a third-party site, MyMove.com. As reported by WIRED, this site has become notorious for using dark patterns and manipulative design to trap visitors in an endless maze of “deals” — instead of providing the simple, secure government service people expect.
Changing an address should not mean wading through misleading ads or data-harvesting schemes. The USPS is a public service, not a marketing funnel.
I urge you to direct the USPS and its technical and marketing vendors to:
• End the MyMove partnership and host address changes entirely on a secure, .gov domain.
• Audit all affiliated services for deceptive design and data-sharing practices.
• Modernize USPS’s digital user experience so it meets federal accessibility and transparency standards.
Millions of Americans use this service every year. They deserve a trustworthy, government-run platform — not “the government’s shittiest website” as WIRED called it.
Thank you for taking oversight action.
