Remove Federal Agents from Polling Places and Enforce a 1,000-Foot Buffer

To: Sen. Alsobrooks, Rep. Elfreth, Sen. Van Hollen

From: A verified voter in Arnold, MD

October 26

Investigate and remove all federal agents from polling places immediately, and establish a minimum 1,000-foot barrier between armed federal personnel and any voting location. Florida law already prohibits armed agents near polling places, yet a Customs and Border Protection officer stopped a person directly in front of a polling location in Key Largo. A bartender recorded the incident and says it was deliberate. This is voter intimidation, plain and simple. When armed federal agents position themselves at the entrance to a polling place, people from different national origins are being sent a message: your vote is not welcome here. That is a direct attack on the constitutional right to vote. A 1,000-foot buffer is a reasonable, enforceable standard that protects every eligible voter from this kind of intimidation. Pass legislation codifying that barrier and ensure violations carry real consequences for the agencies involved.
