Reject inhumane immigrant detention outsourcing to El Salvador

To: Gov. Beshear, Sen. Nunn, Rep. Hampton

From: A constituent in Stamping Ground, KY

February 6, 2025

This proposed agreement to house US deportees and criminals of any nationality in El Salvador's prisons is deeply concerning due to the well-documented inhumane conditions and lack of due process. Subjecting individuals, including potentially US citizens, to such an abusive system that has been condemned by human rights groups would violate constitutional protections against cruel and unusual punishment. We must uphold our commitment to human rights and refrain from outsourcing imprisonment to countries with egregious prison conditions, regardless of the purported benefits to immigration enforcement. I urge you to reject any plan that would allow the mistreatment of detainees and instead pursue immigration policies that respect human dignity and civil liberties.
