Urge new course to facilitate Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations
To: Pres. Biden
From: A constituent in York, PA
August 2, 2024
The ongoing violence and humanitarian crisis in Gaza is deeply concerning. I share your frustration with the seemingly intractable conflict and the immense civilian suffering it has caused. While supporting Israel's right to self-defense, I believe the Biden administration must use its considerable leverage to push for an immediate, comprehensive ceasefire and facilitate meaningful negotiations towards a just and lasting peace. Continuing to provide military aid and arms sales to Israel while the devastating assault on Gaza persists is unacceptable. It perpetuates a cycle of violence and undermines efforts to reach a diplomatic solution that addresses the root causes of the conflict. The human cost has been staggering, with hundreds of thousands of Palestinian civilians killed or displaced. As a committed proponent of human rights and self-determination for all peoples, I urge you to stop supplying weapons and money to Israel. Laying out clear consequences, such as restricting military assistance until a permanent ceasefire is achieved, could be a powerful incentive for all parties to return to the negotiating table in good faith. The path forward requires bold leadership and a willingness to challenge long-held assumptions about America's unconditional support for the Israeli government's actions. My vote will ultimately go to the candidate displaying the courage to chart a new course grounded in international law, human rights, and the shared aspirations for peace and justice held by Israelis and Palestinians alike. The stakes are too high to settle for the status quo of death and dispossession in Gaza.
